わが国の北海道から本州、それに朝鮮半島に分布しています。山地の渓流沿いなどの湿った場所に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は卵形から広卵形で、全縁です。５月から６月ごろ、茎頂に総状花序をだし、白色から淡いうす紫色の花を咲かせます。和名は、葉がカメの甲羅に似ていることから。

ムラサキ科キュウリグサ属の多年草で、学名は Trigonotis guilielmi。英名はありません。

"Tachi-kameba-so" (Trigonotis guilielmi) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Hokkaido, Honshu of Japan and the Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in wet places along montaine streams and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to broad ovate and entire. The racemes are borne on the stem apices and bloom white to pale lilac flowers from May to June. The Japanese name is because the leaves resemble the shell of a turtle.
