わが国の本州、東北地方南部から四国・九州に分布しています。山地の日当たりのよい草地に生え、高さは１５～３０センチになります、茎は直立し、下向きに曲がった毛が生えます。葉は広卵形で、縁に鋭い鋸歯があります。８月から１０月ごろ、上部の葉腋に筒状花を１つずつ咲かせます。花冠の下唇は上唇よりも長く、紫色の条斑があり、中央に黄色い斑紋があります。果実は長さ４～５ミリの蒴果です。

ゴマノハグサ科コゴメグサ属の多年草で、学名は Euphrasia maximowiczii。英名はありません。

"Tachi-kogome-gusa" (Euphrasia maximowiczii) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from southern Tohoku district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in montane sunny grasslands and can reach 15-30 cm in height. The stem is erect and covered with downward curved hairs. The leaves are broad ovate with acute serrated edges. The tubular flowers bloom one by one at the upper axils from August to October. The lower lip is longer than upper lip, with purple stripes and yellow mottles at the center. The fruits are capsules, 4-5 mm long.
