わが国の本州、東北地方南部以西から四国、九州それに東南アジアに広く分布しています。暖地に生え常緑性です。根茎は長く這い、大きな胞子葉と小さな栄養葉をつけます。葉は３〜４回羽状に深裂します。胞子嚢群は、胞子葉の裂片の先端につきます。冬も枯れないので、別名で「かんしのぶ（寒忍）」とも呼ばれます。台湾華語では「日本金粉蕨」、中国語では「野雉尾金粉蕨（ye zhi wei jin fen jue）」です。

The Carrot fern (Onychium japonicum) belongs to the family Parkeriaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is widely distributed from the southern part of the Tohoku region of Honshu west to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, and Southeast Asia. It grows in warm regions and is evergreen. The rhizome crawls long and has large fertile fronds and small sterile fronds. The fronds are deeply split into 3-4 times pinnate lobes. The sorus (sporangium group) are attached to the tip of the fertile frond's spliners. Since it does not die in winter, it is also called "Kan-shinobu" in Japan. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "日本金粉蕨" and "野雉尾金粉蕨" (ye zhi wei jin fen jue).
