Japanese skullcap (Scutellaria indica) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Kyushu, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China, Taiwan and the Indochina Peninsula. This herb grows in forest edges or hills, and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The pale bluish-purple, bubbly wave-like, abiate flowers bloom from May to June. They open up in the direction of the sunlight, and also have pink or white flower color.
