わが国の北海道と本州の早池峰山、北・南アルプスそれに中国の中部に分布しています。高山帯の礫地や乾いた草地に生え、高さは４〜３０センチになります。全体に白い綿毛があり、葉は白っぽく見えます。７月から８月ごろ、花を咲かせます。総苞片は乾いた膜質で、白色または紅紫色をしています。別名で「たかねうすゆきそう（高嶺薄雪草）」とも呼ばれます。

キク科ヤマハハコ属の多年草で、学名は Anaphalis alpicola。英名はありません。

"Takane-yahazu-hahako" (Anaphalis alpicola) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to Hokkaido, Mt. Hayachine in Iwate Prefecture and the Northern and Southern Alps of Honshu in Japan, and central China. This herb grows in alpine screes and arid grasslands, and can reach 4-30 cm in height. The whole plant is covered with white wooly hairs and the leaves are found white-tinged. The flowers bloom in July and August. The bracts are dried membrane, white and magenta.
