南アメリカのチリが原産です。アンデス山脈の標高２０００〜３０００メートルの乾燥した岩礫地に生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。早春に、茎の1〜３個の線形の葉をだし、短い花茎の上に深い青色の花を咲かせます。花の中心部は白色です。夏には地上部が枯れて、休眠します。

The Chilean blue crocus (Tecophilaea cyanocrocus) belongs to the family Tecophilaeaceae. It is a perennial herb that is native to Chile in South America. It grows in dry, rocky areas at an altitude of 2000 to 3000 m in the Andes Mountains and reaches a height of about 10 cm. In early spring, it produces 1 to 3 linear leaves on the stem and blooms deep blue flowers on short scapes. The center of the flower is white. In summer, the above-ground parts wither and the plant enters dormancy.
