わが国の本州、千葉県から近畿地方南部それに四国に分布しています。山地の林内に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は卵状鉾形で葉柄があり、茎の下部に４〜７個集まってつきます。表面は暗紫色を帯び、白い斑紋があります。９月から１１月ごろ、茎の上部の穂状花序に白い頭花を片側に偏って咲かせます。頭花には３個の小花がつき、小花の花冠は線形に５裂します。

キク科モミジハグマ属の多年草で、学名は Ainsliaea cordifolia。英名はありません。

"Teisho-so" (Ainsliaea cordifolia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chiba prefecture to the southern part of the Kinki region of Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. It grows in mountain forests and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-hastate and have petioles, and 4 to 7 leaves are gathered at the bottom of the stem. The surface is dark purple with white spots. From September to November, white flower heads bloom on one side of the spikes on the upper part of the stem. The flower head has 3 florets, and the corolla of the florets linearly splits into 5 pieces.
