わが国の固有種で、北海道南部から本州、四国・九州に分布しています。山地の水湿地などに生え、高さは３０〜７０センチになります。葉は「すすき」のようにざらつき、和名の由来となっています。５月から６月ごろ、茎頂に花穂をつけます。先端に雄花穂、その下に下垂する雌花穂が５〜７個あります。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex kiotensis。英名はありません。

The "Tekiri-suge" (Carex kiotensis) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb and an endemic species of Japan, and distributed southward from southern Hokkaido to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. This herb grows in montane marshes and can reach 30-70 cm in height. The leaves are linear and euralia-like textured. The spikelets are borne on the stem apices from May to June. The upper spikelest is male and the 5-7 side spikelets are female and drooping.
