The "Teshio-kozakura" (Primula takedana) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan, and distributed in the Teshio-gawa River and the Toikanbetsu-gawa River basin in Hokkaido. This herb grows in serpentinite and limestone areas, and up to a height of 10-15 cm. The leaves are basal and lobed in palmately. The white flowers will bloom from May to June. There is no yellow spot on the throat of the corolla. The Japanese name derives from the fact that it was discovered within the Hokkaido University Teshio Experimental Forest in Horonobe Town, Teshio District.
