The Memorial rose (Rosa wichuraiana) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small decidous treee that is distributed to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan and China. This tree grows in sunny grasslands, riverbeds and coasts. It is a trailing vine, about 30 cm in height and spreads 1.8-4.5 m long. The leaves are odd-pinnately compound and shiny dark green with 5-9 elliptic to broad-obovate leaflets. The scented white flowers are borne on the terminal branches from June to July. The false fruits are ripen in red from October to November.
