わが国の南西諸島から台湾に分布しています。海岸の崖や岩場に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。茎は直立し、葉は披針形で互生します。４月から６月ごろ、白色で芳香があり、トランペット形の花を咲かせます。花披片は外側に向かって反り返ります。台湾のものは変種とされ、台湾華語で「粗茎麝香百合（Lilium longiflorum var. scabrum）」と呼ばれます。

The Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Ryukyu Islands in Japan and Taiwan. This herb grows in coastal bluffs and scrags, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The stem is upright and the leaves are lanceolate and alternate. The flowers are white, trumpet-shaped, fragrant and bloom from April to June. The tepals are outward facing. The Taiwanese one is considered a variety and is called "粗莖麝香百合" (Lilium longiflorum var. scabrum) in Taiwanese Mandarin.
