アルゼンチンの西部が原産です。結節があり、ゆっくり成長して高さは３０センチ以上になります。結節は小さな松ぼっくり状で、それぞれが緩くつながり、簡単に落下します。棘はありません。夏に、長さ５センチほどの白色または黄色の花を咲かせます。果実は褐色の液果で、直径は約１５ミリです。

サボテン科テフロカクツス属の団扇サボテンで、学名は Tephrocactus articulatus var. strobiliformis。英名は Pine cone cactus。

The pine cone cactus (Tephrocactus articulatus var. strobiliformis) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a prickly pear that is native to western Argentina. This cactus is segmented and slowly growing up to 30 cm. The segments are little pine-cone shape and loosely attached to each other and fall easily. It is spineless. It blooms white or yellow flowers, 5cm long in summer. The fruit is a brown berry, about 15 mm of diameter.
