メキシコからグアテマラに分布しています。標高１２００メートル以上の湿り気のある日陰に生え、高さは３０センチほどになります。葉は濃い緑色で革質、倒卵形をしています。夏に、ふじ色から紫色、薄紫色のトランペット形の花を咲かせます。花冠は、先端が５裂しています。別名で「メキシカンフォックスグローブ」と呼ばれます。
写真中３・下は園芸品種の「アルバ（cv. Alba）」。

ゴマノハグサ科テトラネマ属の多年草で、学名は Tetranema roseum。英名は Mexican violet、Mexican foxglove。

The Mexican violet (Tetranema roseum) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is native to Mexico and Guatemala. It grows under moist, shady circumstances, up to 1200 m elevation and can reach about 30 cm in height. The leaves are dark green, leathery and obovate. The mauve, violet or lilac trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in summer. The corolla has quintuple-lobate at the tips. It is also called "Mexican foxglove". The lower two photos are a cultivar "Alba".
