テトラテカ属はオーストラリアに固有で２０種ほどが存在しています。本種はニューサウスウェールズ州からクイーンズランド州に分布し、開けた森や林に生えて、高さは５０センチほどになります。冬の終わりから春にかけて、葉腋から花柄を伸ばして藤色の花を咲かせます。４個の花弁と８個の雄しべがあります。

The Black-eyed Susan (Tetratheca thymifolia) belongs to the family Tremandraceae. The genus Tetrateca is endemic to Australia and there are about 20 species. This species is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from New South Wales to Queensland and grows in open forests and woods, reaching a height of about 50 cm. From the end of winter to spring, the peduncles are extended from the axils to make mauve flowers bloom. It has 4 petals and 8 stamens.
