スペイン北部のピレネー山脈とカンタブリア山脈に分布しています。おもに石灰岩地に生え、高さは１０〜２５センチになります。茎は地面を這って、節から根をだし、マット状に広がります。葉はほとんど円形で、縁はホタテガイのように波打ち、綿毛が生えます。５月から６月ごろ、直立した花茎に、２裂したラベンダー色やクリーム色の花を咲かせます。属名はトロイの初代王テウクロスに由来します。また、これは英国王立園芸協会の庭園功労賞を受賞しています。

The Pyrenean germander (Teucrium pyrenaicum) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen shrub that is found in the Pyrenees and Cantabrian Mountains of northern Spain. It grows mainly on limestone terrain and is 10 to 25 cm tall. The stems creep along the ground, rooting out from the nodes and spreading like a mat. The leaves are almost circular with wavy edges like scallops and wooly hairs. 2-lobed lavender or cream-colored flowers bloom on upright flower stalks from May to June. The genus name is derived from Teucer, the first king of Troy. It is also the recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award for Garden Merit.
