The Walnut (Juglans regia var. orientis) belongs to Juglandaceae (the Walnut family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is a variety of English walnut (Juglans regia). It was propagated to Eastern and introduced into China via Silk Road. This tree was introduced into Japan in Edo Era (about 250 years ago), and has been cultivated. It can reach about 20 m in height and the leaves are odd-pinnate compound. The flowers bloom from April and May. The female flowers are erect and the male flowers are drooping. The fruits are nuts and ripen in October. The kernel is small, weighs 9-10 g and has thick hulls.
