アメリカの南西部、カンザス州からテキサス・ルイジアナ州にかけて分布しています。野原や牧草地に生え、根元から分枝して高さは４５〜９０センチになります。主根は地中に深く伸び、夏の酷暑にも耐えることができます。葉は掌状に５裂し、刺毛に被われています。これに触ると３０〜４５分は痛みを感じ続けるそうです。５月から７月ごろ、枝先に白い花を咲かせます。花弁はなく５〜７個の萼片が、花弁のように見えています。

トウダイグサ科クニドスコルス属の多年草で、学名は Cnidoscolus texanus。英名は Texas bull nettle。

The Texas bull nettle (Cnidoscolus texanus) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern United States from Kansas to Texas and Louisiana. It grows in fields and meadows, branching out from the base and growing 45 to 90 cm tall. The main roots grow deep underground and can withstand extreme summer heat. The leaves are palmately lobed and covered with stinging hairs. When they touch this, they continue to feel pain for 30-45 minutes. White flowers bloom at the tips of branches from May to July. There are no petals, but 5 to 7 sepals that look like petals.
