アメリカのテキサス州中部、エドワード高原（Edwards Plateau）の固有種です。石灰岩の岩礫地に生え、高さは１．２メートルほどになります。樹皮は剥離し、よく分枝ます。葉は卵形で対生し、３脈が目立ちます。春、枝先に「ばいかうつぎ（梅花空木）」に似た白色の花を咲かせます。

アジサイ科バイカウツギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Philadelphus texensis。英名は Texas mock-orange。

The Texas mock-orange (Philadelphus texensis) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is endemic to the Edwards Plateau in central Texas, the United States. It grows on limestone conglomerate and is about 1.2 m high. The bark peels off and branches well. The leaves are ovate and opposite, with three prominent veins. In spring, white flowers that resemble "Baika-utsugi" (Philadelphus satsumi) bloom at the tips of branches.
