アメリカのロッキー山脈東部の斜面からプレーリーの北西部に分布しています。半乾燥地域の丘陵や林、草地などに生え、高さは３０〜１２０センチになります。根から６個以上の茎をだし、３出複葉をつけます。小葉は広い長楕円形です。５月から８月ごろ、上部の葉腋から長い総状花序をだし、黄色い蝶形花を咲かせます。

マメ科センダイハギ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Thermopsis rhombifolia。英名は Golden pea、False lupine、Prairie thermopsis。

The Golden pea (Thermopsis rhombifolia) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed from the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains to the northwestern part of Prairie in the United States. It grows in hills, forests and grasslands in semi-arid areas and can reach 30-120 cm in height. It bomes up 6 or more stems from the roots and bears trifoliate leaves. The leaflets are wide oblong. From May to August, long racemes are borne on the upper axils and bloom yellow papillionaceous flowers.
