アメリカのテキサス州から西へニューメキシコ州にかけて自生しています。開けて乾燥した石灰岩地の高原に生え、高さは３０〜９０センチほどになります。だらしなく分枝した多くの茎があります。葉は対生し、長さ２．５〜７．５センチです。下部の葉は３〜５個の細い裂片に分かれ、上部のものはより小さいです。５月から９月ごろ、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花は６〜９個の舌状花と黄褐色の筒状花で構成されています。

キク科テレスペルマ属の多年草で、学名は Thelesperma simplicifolium。英名は Slender greenthread。

The slender greenthread (Thelesperma simplicifolium) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Texas and west into New Mexico in the United States. This herb grows in open, dry limestone upland, and up to a height of 30-90 cm. It has many loosely branched stems. The leaves are opposite, and 2.5-7.5 cm long. The lower leaves have 3-5 narrow segments, but those above have fewer. The yellow flower-heads bloom from May to September. The flower-heads consists of 6-9 yellow ray flowers and yellowish-brown disc flowers.
