ヨーロッパが原産です。標高２０００メートル以下の草地や湿り気のある場所に生え、高さは２５センチほどになります。茎には全体に毛が生えています。葉は卵形から長楕円形で、表面には毛がありません。７月から９月ごろ、輪生状の穂状花序に桃紫色の花を咲かせます。

シソ科イブキジャコウソウ属の多年草で、学名は Thymus pulegioides。英名は Broad-leaved thyme、Larger wild thyme。

The Broad-leaved thyme (Thymus pulegioides) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb grows in grassy and waste places, to 2000 m elevation, and can reach about 25 cm in height. The stems are hairy all round. The leaves are ovate to oblong and hairless above. The flowers are pinkish-purple and bloom in whorled-spikes from July to September.
