南アメリカのエクアドルとペルー北西部に分布しています。標高９００〜２７００メートルの山地に生え、乾燥地帯の樹木などに着生しています。細い茎と細い灰緑色の葉があり、高さは２５〜４０センチになります。茎頂の穂状花序に、青紫色の三弁花を４〜６個咲かせます。花には可憐で芳香があり、ライラック色を帯びた緑色の長い花苞がつきます。種小名は、ラテン語の「青い（caeruleus）」から。

パイナップル科ハナアナナス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Tillandsia caerulea。英名はありません。

The Tillandsia caerulea belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in Ecuador and northwestern Peru in South America. It grows in mountainous areas at elevations of 900 to 2700 m and attaches itself to trees and other vegetation in arid areas. It has slender stems and narrow gray-green leaves, and grows 25 to 40 cm tall. Four to six blue-purple three-petaled flowers are produced in a spike at the top of the stem. The flowers are dainty and fragrant, with long green bracts that are tinged with lilac. The specific epithet is from the Latin "caeruleus" (blue).
