The Tillandsia harrisii belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed in Guatemala, Central America. It grows in humid tropical biomes, epiphytic on trees and rocks. It was described in 1985, and its specific epithet is named after Bill Harris, a lover of Tillandsia. It is characterized by its soft, fleshy leaves with many trichomes (hair-like projections) on the surface, giving it a silvery appearance. It produces bright red inflorescences and blooms about 10 purple tubular flowers. International trade in this species is regulated by the Washington Convention, but many cultivated specimens are available.
