南アメリカが原産です。このハナアナナス属には多くのエアープランツがあり、木や岩などに着生しています。根は固定するためだけで、必要な水分や養分は、葉にある気孔から取りこみます。あまり湿度の高くないわが国では、時々の水やりが必要です。

パイナップル科ハナアナナス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Tillandsia sp.（属の総称）。英名は Tillandsia, Air plant。

The Tillandsia belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pine apple family). This genus is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South America. Many species of this genus are "Air plant", and epiphyte on trees and rocks. It's roots have only role of fixing. The water and nutrient are absorbed from the stomas of leaves. In Japan, where the humidity is not very high, watering is necessary from time to time.
