The "Chishima-waremokou" (Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. kurilensis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hokkaido, the Shiretoko Mountains, the Hidaka Mountains, Rebun Island, as well as the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin in Russia. It grows in sunny grasslands and reaches a height of 40 to 50 cm. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound leaves with 5 to 8 pairs of elliptic leaflets. The edges of the leaflets have coarse serrations. From July to September, elliptic inflorescences appear at the tips of the branches and white flowers bloom. When the flowers first bloom, they may appear slightly reddish.
