わが国の四国、愛媛県津島町の固有種です。１９８４年に発見されました。渓流沿いの林内や林縁に生えます。若い枝は赤色を帯び、短い毛が密生します。葉は卵形から楕円形で、長い葉柄があります。４月から５月ごろ、淡い紅紫色の花を咲かせます。上側の花冠の内側には紅紫色の斑紋があります。果実は蒴果で腺毛が生えます。

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rhododendron uwaense。英名はありません。

"Tokiwa-baika-tsutsuji" (Rhododendron uwaense) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is an endemic species of Tsushima Town, Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku in Japan. It was discovered in 1984. It grows in the forests along the mountain streams and at the forest edges. The young branches are reddish and densely populated with short hairs. The leaves are ovate to elliptic with long petioles. The pale magenta flowers come in April to May. There are magenta spots on the inside of the upper corolla. The fruits are capsules and have glandular hairs.
