"Tokachi-fuuro" (Geranium erianthum f. pallescens) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a perennial herb that is a form of Wooly geranium, and distributed to central Hokkaido; Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group, the Hidaka Mountains and the Shiretoko Mountains. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine grasslands, and can reach 20-50 cm in height. The leaves are divided into 5-7 lobes palmately, and the segments are further notched. The stems and petioles are covered with dense, descending, appressed hairs. The pale bluish-purple flowers bloom on the stem apices from June to August.
