"Tobishima-kanzo" (Hemerocallis dumortieri var. exaltata) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan, and distributed to the Tobi Island of Yamagata prefecture and the Sado Island of Niigata prefecture. The herb grows in castal slopes and cliffs, and can reach about 1.2 m in height. The leaves are broad linear and basal. The flowers are more than a dozen and dark yellow, and bloom on the flowering stalks from May to June. In Sado Island, it is called "Yorame", and it is said that the flowers were salted and preserved and used as winter food.
