わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島に分布しています。蔓性で、日当たりの良い草地や林縁に生えます。葉は３出複葉で互生し、小葉は卵形でやや薄く、先端が急に細くなって尖ります。茎や葉にはまばらに軟毛が生えます。７月から９月ごろ、葉腋から総状花序をだし、淡黄色の花を咲かせます。豆果は、赤く熟して２個の種子をだします。別名で「おおばたんきりまめ（大葉痰切豆）」とも呼ばれます。

マメ科タンキリマメ属の多年草で、学名は Rhynchosia acuminatifolia。英名はありません。

"Tokiri-mame" (Rhynchosia acuminatifolia) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It is a vine and grows in sunny fields and outskirts of woods. The leaves are trifoliate and alternate with ovate, slightly thin and acute-tipped leaflets. The stems and leaves are covered sparsely with soft hairs. The racemes are borne on the axils and the pale yellow flowers bloom from July to September. The fruits are seed pods. They ripen in red, splitting open and come out two seeds.
