インド洋の西部、マスカリン諸島にあるレユニオン島の固有種です。成長が遅く、高さは３〜６メートルほどになります。幹の基部は肥大して徳利形となっています。また幹にははっきりとした環状紋があります。これは葉痕と呼ばれ、葉の落ちた痕です。幹の上部に肉穂花序をつけ、淡緑色の花を咲かせます。

ヤシ科トックリヤシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Hyophorbe lagenicaulis。英名は Bottle palm。

The Bottle palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is endemic to Reunion Island in the Mascarene Islands, in the western part of the Indian Ocean. It grows slowly and can reach 3 to 6 m in height. The base of the trunk is enlarged and has a sake bottle shape. There is also a clear ring crest on the trunk. This is called a leaf mark and is a mark of a fallen leaf. Inflorescences are borne to the upper part of the trunk, and pale green flowers come in bloom.
