わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北に分布しています。半寄生植物で「しおがまぎく」の変種です。亜高山帯から高山帯の草原に生え、高さは２０〜５０センチになります。葉は狭卵形で縁には重鋸歯があります。８月から９月ごろ、茎の上部に紅紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠はねじれ、上から見ると巴状についています。

ゴマノハグサ科シオガマギク属の多年草で、学名は Pedicularis resupinata var. caespitosa。英名はありません。

"Tomoe-shiogama" (Pedicularis resupinata var. caespitosa) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed northward from Chubu district to Tohoku district of Honshu. It is a hemi-parasitic plant and a variety of the "Shigama-giku". This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine grasslands, and it can reach 20-50 cm in height. The leaves are narrow ovate with a doubly serrate margin. The magenta flowers bloom at upper part of stems from August to September. The corolla is twisting and resembles triskelion-shaped.
