The Toukai sundew (Drosera tokaiensis ssp. tokaiensis) belongs to Droseraceae (the Sundew family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Toukai region westward to the eastern part of the Chugoku region in Honshu, and to Shikoku and Kyushu. It grows in acidic wetlands and spring areas, reaching a height of 10-20 cm. It is an amphidiploid hybrid originating from the cross between "Round leaf sundew" and "Common sundew", with a morphology intermediate between the parent species. The leaves are spoon-shaped to spatulate, growing from the base to form a rosette. The entire surface of the leaves is covered with long red glandular hairs. From June to September, it extends its scapes and blooms with bright pink flowers.
