"Toranoo-suzukake" (Veronicastrum axillare) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southern Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as southern China. This herb grows in forests, and it can reach 70-150 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to oblong-ovate with acute tips, and arranged in alternate. They have deltoid toothed edges. The short panicles are borne at the axils and bloom pale magenta, small flowers from August to September. The fruits are flat ovate-round capsules about 3 mm long.
