わが国の北海道から本州の東北地方、それに千島列島やサハリンに分布しています。山地帯から亜高山帯の草地に生え、高さは５０～８０センチになります。葉は腎形で基部は心形、縁には不揃いの鈍い鋸歯があります。７～８月ごろ、茎頂に５～９個の黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径４～５センチで、７～１２個の舌状花があります。果実は長さ６～７ミリの痩果です。別名で「えぞたからこう（蝦夷宝香）」とか「おにたからこう（鬼宝香）」と呼ばれます。

キク科メタカラコウ属の多年草で、学名は Ligularia hodgsonii。英名はありません。

"Touge-buki" (Ligularia hodgsonii) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hokkaido to the Tohoku region of Honshu in Japan, as well as the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. This herb grows from the mountains to subalpine grasslands and is 50-80 cm in height. The leaves are reniform, with heart-shaped base and irregular blunt serrated edges. Around 5 to 9 yellow flower heads come on the shoot apices from July to August. The flower head is 4-5 cm in diameter and has 7-12 ray flowers. The fruits are capsules with a length of 6-7 mm.
