メキシコの北東部が原産です。全体に白い柔毛で被われ、蔓性で地面を這って広がります。葉は卵形で互生し、基部は茎を抱きます。夏から秋にかけて、茎の先にローズピンク色の花を咲かせます。わが国では「しらゆきひめ（白雪姫）」という名前で流通しています。

ツユクサ科ムラサキツユクサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Tradescantia sillamontana。英名は White velvet、White gossamer。

The White velvet (Tradescantia sillamontana) belongs to Commelinaceae (the Spiderwort family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to the northeastern part of Mexico. The whole plant is covered with white soft hair, and crawls and spreads on the ground with vine. The leaves are ovate and alternate, and their bases clasp the stems. The rose pink flowers bloom at the tip of the stem from summer to fall. In Japan, it is distributed under the name "Shirayuki-hime".
