チリ南部が原産です。蔓性で長さは３メートルほどになります。葉は卵形で、先端が長く尖ります。葉腋からトランペット形の紅色からピンク色の花を咲かせます。白色の園芸品種もあるそうです。チリの国花です。和名は蔓性で「つばき（椿）」の花に似ていることから。

ユリ科ツバキカズラ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Lapageria rosea。英名は Chilean bell flower、Copihue。

The Chilean bell flower (Lapageria rosea) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to southern Chile. It is a vine and is about 3 m long. The leaves are ovate and have long, pointed tips. The trumpet-shaped crimson to pink flowers come from the axils. There are also white garden varieties. It is the national flower of Chile. The Japanese name is derived from the fact that it is vine and resembles a "camellia" flower.
