The "Tsukushi-hagi" (Lespedeza homoloba) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a deciduous small tree that is endemic to Japan and ditributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in flatland to montane forest edges and roadsides, and can reach 2-4 m in height. The upper stems are weeping. The leaves are trifoliate and the leaflets are elliptic and thick. The tip of leaflets are variable, round to emarginate. The racemes are borne on the axils and bloom pale magenta papilionacenous flowers from July to October. It is defined that the wing petals are shorter than the flag petals and dark magenta, and the tip of calyx lobes are round.
