わが国の各地をはじめ、サハリン南部に分布しています。山地の林内に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチほどになります。葉は楕円形で、茎の上部に４輪生します。５月から８月ごろ、茎の先端に緑色の花を咲かせます。外花披片は４個、内花披片はありません。球形の果実は紫黒色に熟します。
ユリ科ツクバネソウ属の多年草で、学名は Paris tetraphylla。英名はありません。
The "Tsukubane-so" (Paris tetraphylla) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to all over Japan and southern Sakhalin. This herb grows in mountain woodlands and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic and arranged four whorled at the top of stem. The green flower blooms at the stem apices from May to August. The corolla has only four outer tepals. The globose fruit ripens purplish black.
