The Tumbleweed (Salsola sp.) is a plant group of the Salsola genus in the Amaranthaceae family. It is also called Saltwort or Russian thistle. The genus is distributed in Central Asia and Southwest Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean. They are mostly shrubs and small trees, rarely annuals. They grows commonly in steppe, desert climates or saline areas. The several annual species of Salsola have become so common in North America. The tumbleweed is the above-ground part of a plant that, once mature and dry, disengages from the root and tumbles away in the wind, and it is a common symbol in Western movies.
