The River mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum) belongs to Myrsinaceae (the Myrsine family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from India through Southeast Asia to southern China, New Guinea and Australia. This tree grows in coastal and estuarine areas, and can reach up to 4 m in height. The leaves are alternate, obovate, 3–10 cm long, entire and leathery with minute dotted. The flowers are white, small, fragrant and bloom in the umbels from spring to summer. The fruits are curved-cylindrical and light green to pink in color.
