"Tsuresagi-so" (Platanthera japonica) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is native all over Japan, as well as China and Nepal. This orchid grows in sunny grassland of low mountains, and it can reach 35-60 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic, 5-7 arranged in alternate. The more than a dozen, strong scented, creamy white flowers bloom from May to June. The corolla is about 1.5 cm across and has relatively long spur.
