メキシコから西インド諸島が原産ですが。今では他の熱帯地域にも帰化しています。濃い緑色の葉は長楕円形から卵形で鋸歯があり、高さは６０〜９０センチほどになります。明るい黄色の花を咲かせますが、朝に開いて午後になるとまもなく閉じる一日花です。花色には暗い黄色から、鮮やかな黄白色まであります。

ツルネラ科ツルネラ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Turnera ulmifolia。英名は Yellow alder。

The Yellow alder (Turnera ulmifolia) belongs to Turneraceae (the Turnera family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Mexico and the Caribbean, and naturalized in other tropical areas nowadays. This herb can reach 60-90 cm in height. Leaves are dark green, oblong to ovate with toothed edges. Bright yellow flowers open at morning and wither at afternoon. The flower has varied colors, dark yellow to bright whitish yellow.
