フロリダ州南部やバハマ諸島、中央アメリカに分布しています。海岸近くに生え、自生地での高さは５〜８メートルになります。幹は赤褐色または黒色です。晩春に、芳香のある小さな白い花を咲かせます。果実は赤橙色に熟しますが、鳥たちの好物です。

フトモモ科ミルキアンテス属の常緑低木で、学名は Myrcianthes fragrans。英名は Twinberry、Simpson's stopper。

The Twinberry (Myrcianthes fragrans) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in southern Florida, the Bahamas, and Central America. It grows near the coast and reaches a height of 5 to 8 m in its native habitat. The trunk is reddish brown or black. It produces small, fragrant white flowers in late spring. The fruits ripen to a reddish-orange color and are a favorite food of birds.
