「ジンジャー」は熱帯・亜熱帯の植物ですが、ショウガ科とオオホザキアヤメ科に属するものがあります。本種はオオホザキアヤメ科に属します。インドネシアが原産で、高さは３．５メートルほどになります。硬い蝋質の深紅の苞のなかに、黄色い花を咲かせます。

オオホザキアヤメ科タペイノキルス属の多年草で、学名は Tapeinochilus ananasae。英名は Indonesian wax ginger。

The Indonesian wax ginger (Tapeinochilus ananasae) belongs to Costaceae (the Costus family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Indonesia. "Ginger" is a tropical and subtropical plant, but some belong to the family Zingiberaceae and the family Costaceae. This herb can reach about 3.5 m in height. Yellow flowers come in deep red, hard and waxy bracts.
