The Creeping wire vine (Muehlenbeckia axillaris) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to New Zealand, and Tasmania, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia. This shrub grows on gravelly and rocky places and open grassland, and form wiry mats up to about 1 m in diameter. The leaves are small round to squirish, less than 1 cm in diameter. The yellowish-white flowers bloom in July. The flowers are dioecious. The fruits are very small black berries and edible.
