	オーストラリアの東南部、ニューサウスウェールズ州からビクトリア州、それにタスマニア州に分布しています。疎林に生え、高さは２５～７０メートルになります。樹皮は灰褐色で、しばしば剥離します。葉は狭披針形で、鎌のように曲がります。冬から初夏にかけて、葉腋にふつう１個の白い花を咲かせます。花弁と萼片は合着して帽子状となり、開花とともに脱落します。白く目立つのは雄しべです。わが国でふつうに「ユーカリ」といえば本種のことです。
	フトモモ科ユーカリ属の常緑高木で、学名は Eucalyptus globulus。英名は Tasmanian blue gum。
	The Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to southeastern Australia; New South Wales to Victoria and Tasmania. This tree grows in open wood and can reach 25-70 m in height. The barks are grayish brown and often peel. The leaves are narrow laneceolate and curve like a sickle. The solitary white flower come in axils from winter to early summer. The petals and sepals are connate and form a calotte that drops off at the same time of bloom. The stamens are white and visible. In Japan, the word "eucalyptus" usually refers to this species.
