南アメリカのエクアドルの固有種です。亜熱帯または熱帯の乾燥した低木地帯に生え、高さは４０センチほどになります。春から夏にかけて、長い花茎を伸ばして、散形花序に赤色の筒状花を咲かせます。花冠から長い雄しべが突き出すのが特徴です。花が咲く前でも後でも、葉は現れます。葉は緑色のへら形で、長い葉柄があります。本種は、生息地の消失により、絶滅の危機に瀕しているといいます。

ユリ科ユークロシア属の多年草で、学名は Eucrosia stricklandii (syn. Eucrosia stricklandii var. stricklandii)。英名はありません。

The Eucrosia stricklandii belongs to Liliacese (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is a native species of Ecuador in South America. It grows in dry shrubland in subtropical or tropical regions, and is around 40 cm tall. From spring to summer, it produces long scapes with red tubular flowers in an umbel. The long stamens that stick out from the corolla are a characteristic feature. The leaves appear before or after the flowers bloom. The leaves are green, spatulate-shaped, and have long stipes. This species is said to be on the verge of extinction due to the disappearance of its habitat.
