オーストラリア原産のフィキフォリア種（Eucalyptus ficifolia）とプティコカルパ種（Eucalyptus ptychocarpa）との種間交雑種です。成長が早く、耐寒性や耐乾燥性にも優れ、高さは５メートル以上になります。葉は披針形で、幼木では対生、成木では互生します。夏に、ピンク色から赤色の雄しべの目立つ花を咲かせます。花弁は萼片と合着して帽子状となり、開花すると落下します。写真中３は、帽子を被ったままのつぼみ。

フトモモ科ユーカリ属の常緑高木で、学名は Eucalyptus cv. Summer Red。英名は Red flowering gum 'Summer Red'。

The red flowering gum 'Summer Red' (Eucalyptus cv. Summer Red) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is an interspecific hybrid between Eucalyptus ficifolia and Eucalyptus ptychocarpa. It is precocious, cold and drought tolerant, and can reach up to 5 m in height. The leaves are lanceolate, opposite when young tree and alternate when mature. The flowers with conspicuous pink to red stamens come in summer. The petals and sepals are connate and form a calotte that drops off at the same time of bloom.
