ヨーロッパや北アジアが原産で、赤い果実のなるキイチゴ属の一種です。他の温帯地域でもふつうに栽培されています。野生では林に生え、高さは１．５〜２．５メートルになります。葉は羽状複葉で、３または５個の小葉がつきます。春の終わりに、白色の花を短い総状花序に咲かせます。夏から秋のはじめに、いっぱいの小核果による集合果をつけます。果実は食用になり、甘いですが酸っぱさがあります。ふつうは「ラズベリー」と呼ばれます。

バラ科キイチゴ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Rubus idaeus。英名は Raspberry、Red raspberry、European raspberry。

The Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a red-fruited species of Rubus native to Europe and northern Asia and commonly cultivated in other temperate regions. This shrub grows in forests and can reach 1.5-2.5 m in height in the wild. The leaves are pinnately compound with three or five leaflets. The white flowers bloom on short racemes in late spring. It is produced an aggregate fruit of numerous drupelets in summer or early fall. The fruit is edible, and sweet but tart-flavoured.
