マダガスカルの北東部に分布しています。季節的に乾燥する熱帯バイオームにある砂地に生え、高さは６０センチほどになります。茎は細く、丸みをおびた樹形になります。葉は楕円形で光沢があり多肉質、対生します。ほとんど一年中、枝先の杯状花序に、鮮やか紅色の花を咲かせます。花弁のように見えるのは苞葉です。種小名は、フランスの植物採集家レイモンド・ゲロルドに因みます。和名では「とげなしはなきりん（棘無し花麒麟）」と呼ばれます。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Euphorbia geroldii。英名は Gerold's spurge、Thornless crown of thorns。

The Gerold's spurge (Euphorbia geroldii) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the northeastern part of Madagascar. It grows in sandy soil in a seasonally dry tropical biome and grows to a height of about 60 cm. The stems are thin and rounded in shape. The leaves are elliptic, shiny, fleshy, and opposite. It produces bright red flowers in cyathiums at the ends of its branches almost all year round. The bract leaves look like petals. The specific epithet is named after Raymond Gerrold (1928-2009), a French plant collector. The Japanese name is "Togenashi-hana-kiri" (thornless crown of thorns).
